Yoga is for Everyone

You don't have to be young and flexible to enjoy and benefit from yoga. It is a great way to help you stay that way though. Many people see advance yoga practitioners and think, "I could never do that." That may be so, but that is no different than saying that I could never do what Sidney Crosby does on the ice, or what any other professional does in their art. We can still enjoy hockey and get lots of benefit from it.

One thing that yoga teaches very well is that life isn't about competing and comparing with others. You do yoga for you. It is not to try to impress others. It is not to try to do it better than anyone else. You just do it because it is good for you to do so. With time you will see that this is a great way to approach everything in life.

Traditionally yoga was practiced by men all the time. Possibly more than women. In North America it has been attracting more women to the studio but lately we are see a much better balance between men and women. In our class we have had more men participating than women at times. Currently it has swung in favour of women.

Many professional sports teams have now encoropracted yoga into their training programs. It is a very challenging practice and you can push yourself as hard as you like, and at the same time you will learn how to relax, which is something that most men are in need of. Dr. Dan first started yoga as part of a weight lifting program and he found the yoga practice to be the most challenging part of the program. He also found it the most rewarding. It has enhanced his martial arts training and many other aspects of his life.

Many women enjoy the practice of yoga today. There are different reasons why they enjoy it. Some enjoy the relaxation they accomplish. Some enjoy the physical fitness it brings them. What ever they personal reason is, the numbers of women that are coming to classes keeps growing. Once you get started you will know why. You can see and feel the changes in your body very quickly. Most strength, losing weight, more flexible, and better tone. It is also a skill you can take anywhere. Just put your mat on the floor and get to work on a routine. Make yoga part of your lifestyle and it will bring you many rewards.
